The same set of things exists three times: as a flight plan, as scenes, and as physical switches. When the phases align across all three, the performance becomes intuitive to play and easy to read.
Flipping a switch launches its scene. The active phase stays lit, like a real annunciator, so a glance at the panel shows exactly where the set is. Other controls arm tracks, trigger instruments and shape the sound. The gesture is physical and visible — the audience sees a cockpit being operated, and hears the music respond in the same instant. This is the essence of the project: a real aircraft part, told what to do in code.
State feedback closes the loop. Every scene change in Ableton is echoed back to the panel, so its lights always match the live state of the music. Underneath, a custom Python bridge reads each switch, debounces the signal and keeps latency low, so the panel feels immediate under the fingers. On stage, that responsiveness is everything: a delay of even a few milliseconds would break the connection between gesture and sound.
